About WhoNeedsCollege.com

More than one path to a fulfilling career.

WhoNeedsCollege.com helps people explore career possibilities, understand their options, and find a direction that fits their interests—without assuming a four-year degree is the starting point for everyone.

An idea more than 25 years in the making

Ben, the founder of WhoNeedsCollege.com, purchased the domain more than 25 years ago while studying for his undergraduate degree.

It was the beginning of the internet boom. Ben spent his mornings meeting with website design clients and his evenings attending university classes. In an Introduction to Website Design course, he realized that his experience working with clients had already taken him beyond much of what was being taught.

That experience prompted a question: how much of building a successful career comes from a degree, and how much comes from learning, doing, and taking initiative?

Like many of his friends, Ben had grown up hearing from parents, teachers, and role models that a college degree was essential to a successful, happy life. He had also grown up in a family of entrepreneurs across different industries, where he saw the value of hard work, determination, and a willingness to keep learning.

The domain captured a question he would carry with him for decades.

Why bring that idea to life now?

With the cost of higher education weighing on families and advances in AI prompting new questions about work, Ben felt it was time to help people explore more possibilities.
